About the Team

At the Heart Foundation, we are driven by our purpose - to stop all people in New Zealand dying prematurely from heart disease and enable people with heart disease to live full lives. The delivery of prevention and care and support programmes in New Zealand communities and fundraising for vital heart research describes the diverse work of our team. This role reports to the Direct Fundraising Manager and is part of the wider Fundraising and Partnerships team. The Direct Fundraising team is responsible for mass marketing programmes that reach hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders who generously gift their time or donate to support the cause.

About your responsibilities

You will be an experienced supporter marketing copywriter and responsible for planning, researching, and writing for a specific supporter audience, tailoring content for fundraising appeals, the Heart Foundation’s iconic lottery programme, and events fundraising. Working across all donor communications, direct marketing letters, eDMs, brochures and supporter journeys, you will work closely with our programme leads and graphic designer, confidently contributing ideas and producing quality supporter communications. You will be passionate about storytelling and the power of great content to engage our donor audiences, communicating through hi-quality print, digital and experiential copy to the Heart Foundation supporter base, creating urgency for people to support either through a financial gift or a gift in time.


To be successful in this role you will understand the donor audience, be a great communicator and a specialist in supporter marketing writing. You will have a high attention to detail and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.

Key Capabilities:

      • Relevant degree in English, Communications or Journalism
      • Minimum 4-5 years experience in direct marketing campaigns end-to-end
      • Exceptional writing and research skills
      • Demonstrable experience as a copywriter with a portfolio of work produced for the charity sector specialising in fundraising
      • Ability to tell stories, follow established brand guidelines and key messages for specific audiences.
