What we do:

At the Heart Foundation, we are driven by our purpose – to stop all people in New Zealand dying prematurely from heart disease and enable people with heart disease to live full lives. The delivery of prevention and care and support programmes in New Zealand communities and fundraising for vital heart research describes the diverse work of our team of approximately 130 people across New Zealand. This role is part of the Marketing and Communications team, a team responsible for generating Heart Foundation brand awareness, relevance and engagement throughout New Zealand by creating and implementing strategic marketing and communications initiatives.


What you will be doing:

The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing communications for many of our activities across the organisation. The role has an external focus, providing writing and communications services, advice and support as a business partner for delivery teams.The Communications Specialist reports to the Communications Manager, taking direction, portfolio assignments and providing support to ensure all communications are integrated, and that seamless and high-quality communications advice and support is provided to all internal partners.


Our ideal candidate will have:

  • excellent technical and creative writing skills for different audiences and channels, particularly the ability to translate clinical information
  • a nose for a good story and an eye for detail
  • a relevant tertiary qualification in communications
  • at least 5 years proven experience in a similar communications role
  • an understanding of a charity environment
  • exceptional time management and organisation skills - able to prioritise competing tasks without dropping the ball.
